Free Accommodation for Kids with Cancer in Ukraine

Dear friends,

thank you for supporting Ukrainian kids with cancer!

Now our team is celebrating 10^th anniversary of Zaporuka Foundation. It is time to look back and to see what we have accomplished. During this time we helped more 2000 kids with cancer providing them with medicines and therapies for the total amount of more than 3 million dollars. The project Dacha that you are supporting is active for 8 years and during this period more than 1000 families received free accommodation.

It is also time to think big and to make our biggest dream come true. Our goal is to build a new modern Center Dacha specially designed for kids affected by cancer. Now with the Center that we rent we can guarantee free accommodation for 6 families. But in reality at least 15 of such families need a place to stay. We have a land plot, a project made by local architectures for free, all the permits and a part of the necessary amount of money for construction. We continue fundraising and that’s why we updated the project and we hope to receive your support.

We are happy that our Dacha was named GlobalGiving’s Project of the Month for May 2018. That’s really important for families who come for kids’ treatment from all over Ukraine like little Adelina. She is only eight months old. She qas diagnosed with kidney cancer. She underwent a complicated surgery and many chemotherapy cycles. At the moment, the girl lives with her parents at the Dacha where her family can be together and support each other. And here her twin sister Dominika can come to visit her.

While Adelina is receiving treatment in Kyiv, her twin sister Dominika stays with her grannies at home. Still, there is a connection between them and at distance it seems even stronger. Granny may not tell their mom that Dominika had caught a cold but the next morning Adelina wakes up with the same symptoms. The parents and little girls were so sad that they couldn't be together all the time.  And one day granny brought her granddaughter Diminika to Kyiv for a visit. It was a perfect family moment: all together, smiling, playing and sometimes even behaving naughtily.

Whenever we hear kids’ loud voices and laughs at the Center Dacha, we understand how much they need a place where they can get together and support each other even if they are far away from home and fight for their lives against a serious disease. It makes their road to recovery easier. Your contributions make it possible. Thank you!

thank you for supporting Center for Kids Affected by Cancer Dacha in 2017!

It’s time to share with you the results of Zaporuka Foundation activities in the previous year. 71 children lived at the Center Dacha, most of them were with both parents. Besides, 38 family members had an opportunity to live free of charge at the Center when the child was in the hospital. For more information about all our activities, please, see the infographics in attachment.

We are happy because we can share with you not only numbers that is really important but also the stories of kids who stayed at the Center Dacha during treatment and now they are all right and come back for regular follow up visits.

These kids always tell us about their life after the disease like little Viktoria or as we call her Vikusia who came to us and proudly said: “I go to school and I am the best pupil in my class!” Later her mom explained to us that in their small village there were only two pupils of Vikusia’s age. However, the girl is eager to learn and to explore the world.

Viktoria was diagnosed with cancer when she was only two years old and her younger brother was only two months. Her mom had to leave her baby with their grannies and to go to Kyiv to save her daughter’s life. They lived at the Center Dacha between hospitalizations and Vikusia’s dad and little brother often came to visit them here.

This family is very friendly, always with a positive attitude despite all the hardships. They organized parties at the Dacha involving other families, helped a lot to keep the house in order. They motivated others with their enthusiasm. Now Vikusia is all right but her family never forgets to say thank you for giving them home during the most difficult period in their life.

Vikusia and many kids like her have home when they are ill thanks to your contributions. We hope that you will be there for these kids in 2018 too.
