Dear friends,
thank you for your generous donations that make Dacha possible!
During the pandemic, many kids come to the hospital in Kyiv just for diagnosis and prescriptions and then return to their local hospitals for chemotherapy. However, certain therapies are available only in day hospital in Kyiv. Kids who receive them need a place to stay. Like our Dacha house.
Yuliana was diagnosed with cancer just before the pandemic. Mostly, she was on treatment in the city of Chernivtsi, that’s about 500 km from the Ukrainian capital. Dacha became Yuliana’s second home for a month when she came to Kyiv for radiotherapy.
We asked Yuliana a few questions about her Dacha life. That’s what she told us.
- What’s your favorite place at the Dacha?
- Here I can go to the playground, to ride a swing, to climb into a treehouse. My favorite place is a playroom with its many toys and books. I like to paint coloring books and to read Ukrainian folk tales. Also, we have a big TV on which I watch cartoons.
- Does your mom cook something special for you at the Dacha kitchen?
- I like varenyky, liver cake, cutlets, and cheese balls. I also like to bake with my mom. Yesterday we made cupcakes! They are so tasty!
- Do you have friends here?
- I am friends with Yulia. We got acquainted at the hospital. Although Yulia is a bit older than me, we have fun together.
- What do you like about Dacha?
- I like that there are no doctors in white coats here. It is cozy here as if I didn’t leave my home.
Current Dacha is the home for 6 families. New Dacha that is now under construction will host up to 15 families.
Please, support Dacha on #GivingTuesday today, on December 1, so that kids had the second home in 2021.
