Free Accommodation for Kids with Cancer in Ukraine

Our Dacha is a place for kids like a one year old Vasia who you can see in the pictures. During a year more than 100 kids with cancer have an opportunity to live at the Center Dacha together with their parents and even sisters and brothers. Most of these families are coming to the hospital from far away villages and cities, they are very poor and they get full support from our Foundation to treat their children: medicines, food, psychological help, nurses and, of course, free accommodation at the Center Dacha.

Vasia is a little boy who has a terrible disease since he was born. When he comes to the Dacha his bright smile illuminates hearts of all people around him. Everybody who gets to know him is destined to like him. He is so cheerful that sometimes it is impossible to believe that a life-threatening disease is eating his body from the first day of his life. Unfortunately, the boy knows how hard it is to stay at the hospital for months and to continue painful therapies but he has to do it to recover.

Vasia is really happy when he has an opportunity to spend time at the Dacha which is nothing like the hospital but like a true home with his own room, with a playroom and a kitchen where his mother can cook for him. Vasia comes regularly to the Dacha with his mom and his granny for almost a year. As his mother tells that at the Dacha her son feels better, he has better appetite and his medical tests results get better allowing him to continue fighting for his life.

Here at the Dacha Vasia cut his first tooth and pronounced his first words. It’s more than an accommodation for him and for all other children because those who stay here are friends and take care of each other as if they were one big family. When Vasia had a complicated surgery all Dacha people supported his parents and prayed for him.  Now Vasia has completed main treatment and starts rehabilitation. For its duration he will stay here at the Dacha.

The boy, Sasha the Painter as we call him, has cancer but he doesn’t give up. When he is at the hospital or at the Center for Children Affected by Caner Dacha he paints red cats and with the help of volunteers sells his pictures to pay for necessary medicines.

Yesterday 8-year-old boy came to us and said that he wanted to give a part of his earnings to support Dacha project on Global Giving because he liked staying there with his family. He came and said like a little man: “I want to help, I decided so!” Our 41^st donor is really unique.
