Summary

We are raising funds to provide free treatment to 50 poor patients suffering from renal failure ($65000 will cover six months' cost of treatment). The therapy includes free Dialysis (a process of removing excess water, solutes, and toxins from the blood in people whose kidneys can no longer perform these functions naturally), provision of free medicines, consultation and laboratory examinations.

Challenge

Different estimates show that annually 150,000 people suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease in Pakistan. Annually 15,000 people end up with complete renal failure. Most of the CKD patients who develop complete renal failure belong to the low-income group of society. Unfortunately, dialysis can be pretty expensive due to the highly specialised and costly machines, high labor costs due to the need for specially trained doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff and the long-term nature of the treatment.

Solution

The Dialysis Unit at Al-Mustafa Hospital is currently serving 50 poor and white-collar patients suffering from CKD who cannot afford the expensive dialysis sessions. It is equipped with 12 dialysis machines and works under the supervision of a highly qualified and experienced Urologist and his team of specially trained healthcare workers. Our registered patients get free treatment, including free dialysis, medicines, laboratory examinations and consultation.

Long-Term Impact

When the kidneys can't perform their functions due to disease or injury, Dialysis can help keep the body running as normally as possible. Without Dialysis, salts and other waste products will accumulate in the blood, poison the body, and damage other organs, thus Dialysis is the essential treatment to increase the life span and quality of life of patients suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease. The only treatment solution other than Dialysis for CKD patients is a Kidney transplant.
