Rebuilding Lives (From Mud Hut to Home)

By Asif Mahmood Jah | Project Leader

Respected Donors,

Season’s Greetings!

The devastating floods that struck Pakistan last year brought unprecedented destruction, displacing millions and leaving them homeless. For over four months, countless individuals have been forced to live in deplorable conditions under the open sky, clinging to hope for relief. In response to this dire situation, the Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) has adapted its "From Mud Hut to Home" project to address the urgent rehabilitation needs of flood-affected communities in Sindh.

The Ongoing Challenges in Tharparkar

Tharparkar is one of Pakistan's most remote and impoverished regions, largely made up of desert land with limited resources. The people of this region face numerous challenges, including extreme poverty, malnutrition, and a severe lack of basic amenities like clean water and stable shelter. In collaboration with the GlobalGiving Foundation, CHCS has been actively working to alleviate some of these hardships.

One of our most critical initiatives involves digging wells to provide safe drinking water for both humans and animals. These wells are lifelines for thousands in drought-stricken areas, making survival possible in an otherwise harsh environment.

Progress of the "From Mud Hut to Home" Project

While much of our focus has shifted to providing immediate relief to flood-affected communities, the "From Mud Hut to Home" project continues to make significant progress in Tharparkar. The initiative seeks to replace fragile, temporary mud huts with durable brick-walled homes, giving impoverished families much-needed protection from the desert's harsh conditions.

These newly constructed homes offer more than just shelter; they provide families with a sense of security, stability, and hope for a brighter future. Each house built is a symbol of resilience and a fresh start for those who have suffered through years of hardship.

Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to construct and deliver these homes to families in need. The gratitude and relief of the beneficiaries are evident, as these new homes symbolize safety and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Continued Commitment and Appeal for Support

CHCS remains deeply committed to constructing more homes for the vulnerable hut dwellers of Tharparkar. While we have made notable strides using our own resources, the scale of the problem has dramatically increased due to the recent floods. Many families are still in desperate need of secure housing, and the demand for safe drinking water has also surged.

To address these critical needs, we urgently require additional financial support. We appeal to donors worldwide to join hands with us in this mission. Your contributions will help us:

1. Construct More Homes**: Each donation allows us to build more durable brick-walled houses, offering flood-affected families and the impoverished residents of Tharparkar a safe and stable shelter.

2. Expand Water Projects**: Your support will enable us to dig more wells, ensuring that both people and livestock in this drought-hit region have access to clean, safe drinking water.

3. Provide Immediate Relief**: Donations will help deliver essential supplies such as food, clothing, and medical aid to those still struggling in the aftermath of the floods.

4. Support Long-Term Rehabilitation**: Beyond short-term relief, your generosity will help us implement sustainable development projects aimed at improving living conditions and creating economic opportunities for the people of Tharparkar.

How You Can Help

Your kindness and generosity can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those affected by both the floods and the ongoing challenges in Tharparkar. Every contribution—big or small—brings us closer to our goal of providing safe, stable, and dignified living conditions for these vulnerable populations.

We invite you to join us in this important and life-changing mission. Together, we can rebuild homes, restore hope, and create a brighter, more secure future for the flood-affected communities and the impoverished residents of Tharparkar.

Thank you for your compassion, support, and commitment to making a difference.

Warm Regards,

Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah
