From Street to School: A Story of Second Chances
When we first met Lamin, he was selling small items on the roadside to help his family survive. School had become a distant dream. Each morning, instead of a classroom, Lamin faced the street—heat, hunger, and uncertainty. Like many children we serve, he wanted to learn, but poverty kept him out of school.
Through our Street to School Sponsorship Program, donors like you helped change that story.
We began with Lamin’s family—listening, assessing needs, and building trust. With your support, we enrolled him in school, provided uniforms, books, and daily meals, and paired his family with a community mentor. The first day he put on his uniform, Lamin said, “I feel like I belong.”
Today, Lamin attends school regularly. His teachers report steady improvement in reading and math, and his confidence has grown. Most importantly, he is no longer on the street. His mother has joined a women’s savings group linked to our program, helping stabilize the household so Lamin can stay in school.
Lamin’s journey is not just one child’s success—it reflects a system that works:
Children identified on the street
Family-centered support
Education sponsorship
Ongoing monitoring and mentorship
This quter, your generosity helped us:
Transition children from street work to school
Provide school supplies, uniforms, and meals
Support families with livelihood and counseling services
What makes this project strong is continuity. We don’t stop at enrollment—we walk with each child and family until school becomes a stable, lasting reality.
What’s next?
We aim to expand sponsorships to reach more children still on the streets and strengthen after-school tutoring to improve learning outcomes.
Thank you for believing that every child deserves a classroom, not a street. Because of you, Lamin—and many others—now have a future worth dreaming about.
