This project will provide the funds to purchase a site which will become a multipurpose support centre for vulnerable children&families at risk of breakdown -a safe place for street children to eat, access clean water, play & be listened to; family& community support for families on the edge; life skills training for former street children as well as parents of children without an income. Providing families with an income could be the key to preventing their children ending up on the streets.
Kimbilio has been providing essential support for street children in a large Church building in the Kenya area of Lubumbashi for 12 years. The Church is to be redeveloped and is no longer available for us to use. We are currently supporting over 100 children per week through this service. A rare plot of land is for sale opposite our existing site is for sale. We're seeking the funds to buy and develop it so we can continue to provide this much needed support service.
Owning our own site will allow us to continue to provide support for children living on the streets and creatively develop our work offering life skills training for former street kids and preventative support projects for families who are at risk of breakdown. Our own property will offer greater flexibility to develop and offer a greater range of support to vulnerable children and families. Training that will be offered include sewing and carpentry through our existing experienced staff team.
The long term aim of this centre is to reduce the number of children on the streets of Lubumbashi. This purpose built 'Kimbilio Centre' will be in a position to offer a holistic support package to the street children we meet; from the streets, back to their families with family support being offered to ensure the family doesn't break down and the children don't return to the streets again.
