Great Support
By Andrew Mullens | Kimbilio Support
Providing food at the existing Day Centre
Thank you so much for your financial support for the Kimbilio Project to build a multi-purpose centre for street children in Lubumbashi in the the Democratic Republic of Congo. We have been so encouraged by the great support for what is our biggest project to date. Please continue to help us to meet the total we need to commence building the foundations and then the ground floor of the new Day Centre.
The need for a new Day Centre has been reinforced by the increased numbers of children living on the streets in Lubumbashi. The election just before Christmas caused a lot of unrest and violence, particularly in rural areas, and this led to increased numbers of children making their way to the city. The Kimbilio carers have been very busy providing the children with food and drink, washing facilities, clothing and the opportunity to talk through their individual circumstances.

Project Update
By Andrew Mullens | Kimbilio Support
Thank you for your financial support for the building of a new multipurpose Day Centre in Lubumbashi. This is by far the most ambitious project that Kimbilio has undertaken but we believe that it will transform the help that we can provide to the children forced to live on the streets of Lubumbashi. They will be offered food, medical care, clean water & the opportunity to find their families if this is possible & safe. The new Day Centre will also include a hair dressing salon for teenage mums trained by Kimbilio and a shop for those we've trained in sewing skills to sell their work to provide an income for their families.
I reported last time that the land for the new Day Centre had been purchased and the bricks prepared. We are now in the process of raising sufficient funds so that we can commence the building of the first stage of the Day Centre. We hope to be able to start building in Spring 2024.
The Congolese team of carers in Lubumbashi are so committed to helping the street children and it is heartwarming to see the children with smiles on their faces after receiving food and drink and having an opportunity to talk with the carers about the reasons that led to them living on the streets.

Next Steps

Bricks ready for building
Thank you for your support for this exciting project. The land that had been purchased on which to build the multipurpose street kids centre has been protected by a brick wall around it. This prevents it being a thorougfare. We have spoken with a local builder with a good reputation and he has made 3D images of the proposed building, which we plan to build in three stages.
At the moment, we need funds for making the bricks and digging the foundations. You will see from the photo that we have already started making the bricks. As we are now seeing increased numbers of street children coming to the existing Day Centre - up to 500 a month - the need for a multipurpose centre becomes more and more important.
