Dear Donors,
Thank you for supporting the Fund Cataract Surgery for 500 Elderly Nigerians project. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and concern for older people living with avoidable blindness.
Across many rural and low-income communities, elderly men and women are gradually losing their sight due to untreated cataracts. What often begins as blurred vision can progress to severe visual impairment or complete blindness when treatment is not available. Many older people cannot afford surgery and are left dependent on relatives for basic daily activities such as cooking, moving around, reading, attending social gatherings, or accessing healthcare services.
We are grateful for the donations received so far. However, the funds currently available are not sufficient to begin implementation of the project. Additional support is needed before patient screening, surgical scheduling, transportation assistance, medical supplies procurement, and treatment activities can commence.
This project aims to fund cataract surgeries for 500 elderly Nigerians living with vision loss. Beneficiaries will receive eye examinations, surgery by qualified eye specialists, and basic post-operative care. Community outreach activities will also help identify older people who need treatment but have limited access to eye care services.
Restoring sight can dramatically improve the quality of life of an elderly person. Following successful surgery, many beneficiaries can return to daily activities, regain independence, reconnect with family and community life, and reduce their reliance on caregivers. Improved vision can also lower the risk of falls and injuries that commonly affect older people living with blindness.
We remain committed to implementing this project and continue working toward the resources needed to launch the first phase. As progress is made, we look forward to sharing updates, photographs, and stories from the elderly beneficiaries whose lives will be changed through restored vision.
Thank you for helping bring sight, dignity, and renewed independence to older people who would otherwise remain trapped by avoidable blindness.
Warm regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
