Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to the Fund Cataract Surgery for 500 Elderly Nigerians project. Your support shows care for older people who are living with avoidable blindness and struggling to manage daily life.
Cataracts remain the leading cause of blindness among elderly Nigerians, especially in rural and low-income communities. Many older persons lose their sight simply because they cannot afford surgery or reach eye clinics. As vision worsens, they become unable to move safely, work, or care for themselves, placing heavy strain on families who are already struggling.
This project is planned to support 500 elderly individuals with cataract surgery carried out by trained eye surgeons in approved rural clinics. Each beneficiary will receive pre-surgery assessment, the operation itself, and basic follow-up care. Local coordination and transport support are included so elderly persons in remote areas are not left out. Surgeries will be organized in batches to allow careful planning and safe delivery.
At this time, while we are grateful for the donations received, the funds available so far will not be able to start the project yet. Surgical scheduling, clinic preparation, and patient mobilization will begin once additional support is secured.
With full funding, this project will help restore sight, reduce dependence on caregivers, and allow elderly people to return to daily activities with confidence and dignity.
Thank you for standing with elderly Nigerians and helping bring the gift of sight closer to reality.
Kind regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
