A Year of Presence, Care, and Hope

Thank you for standing with Fundación Aladina and helping us bring light, comfort, and strength to children with cancer and their families across Spain. As our president Paco Arango often reminds us, “accompanying a child with cancer means much more than being present — it means offering warmth, support, and hope exactly when it’s needed most.” In 2024, this spirit guided every step we took alongside families facing the toughest moments of their lives.

A Family’s Story

Yasmina, mother of eight-year-old Valeria, shared with us how deeply Aladina’s support shaped their journey. When Valeria was diagnosed with aplasia medular, everything changed overnight. After months of uncertainty, she underwent a bone marrow transplant and began the long path of recovery. Through every stage, Aladina’s psychological team, workshops, and emotional support became part of their daily life. “Valeria has taught me what it means to live with courage,” Yasmina says. “Thanks to Aladina, we found strength, smiles, and the hand we needed during the hardest moments.” Her story reflects the journey of so many families we accompany each year — and the impact donors like you make possible.

Your Impact in 2024

Because of your generosity, thousands of children and families received comprehensive support across 22 hospitals in Spain. This past year:

• 578 families received psychological care

• 2,314 recreational sessions brought play and joy to 402 young patients

• 334 children experienced comfort through therapy dogs in 428 sessions

• 340 patients benefited from our physical exercise program

• 87 patients received mucositis treatment

• 1,920 home visits provided essential palliative care

• 317 families received emergency financial assistance

• 25 sports scholarships helped patients and caregivers stay active

• 206 children and teens attended international therapeutic camps

• 8 Aladina Fellowships supported the training of young oncologists

Looking Ahead: The Aladina Home

As we build the future, we are thrilled to share a historic milestone: the creation of The Aladina Home, Spain’s first full-day support center for children with cancer, survivors, and their families. Located on a 15,000 m² site in Madrid’s Hortaleza district and fully funded by the foundation, this €15 million project will offer emotional, psychological, educational, and recreational programs all under one roof. It represents our deepest commitment: ensuring that no child or family faces cancer alone.

Celebrating 20 Years of Hope
This year, the Aladina Foundation turns 20. For two decades, we’ve walked alongside children and teenagers with cancer—and their families—offering care, support, and hope when it’s needed most. We work hand in hand with 22 hospitals across Spain, supporting over 2,000 young patients each year and thousands of families since 2005.

At Aladina, our approach goes beyond medicine. We bring laughter, play, emotional guidance, and love into every child’s journey, with special attention to teenagers, who are often overlooked in pediatric care.

The Impact We’ve Made Together
In 2024, Aladina touched thousands of lives:

• 613 children and teens received psychological support.
• 2.735 recreational therapy sessions helped children find joy “Together from Home.”
• 553 young patients experienced the comfort and love of therapy dogs.
• 66 siblings and 75 family members received specialized bereavement care.
• 293 children improved their emotional and physical well-being through exercise programs.
• 274 emotional support sessions were offered to families navigating cancer.

Other highlights:

• 25 sports scholarships for patients and caregivers to move, play, and heal together.
• 6 Aladina Fellowships to train the next generation of pediatric oncologists.
• 207 children and teens attended international therapeutic camps.
• 295 families received emergency financial assistance.
• 1.601 in-home visits for children receiving palliative care, providing comfort where it matters most.

Looking Ahead: The Aladina Home
To celebrate our 20th anniversary, we are creating The Aladina Home—Spain’s first full-day support center for children with cancer, their families, and survivors. Located on a 15,000 m² site in Madrid’s Hortaleza district, this center will be entirely funded by the foundation, with a €15 million investment.

Every year, over 2,000 children in Spain are diagnosed with cancer. At Aladina, we are committed to expanding emotional, psychological, material, and research-based support so that no child faces this journey alone.
