Report on the Aladina Foundation
Introduction and Activity Summary
This year marks the 19th anniversary of the Aladina Foundation, which has become the reference foundation in Spain for supporting children and adolescents with cancer and their families. Noted for our innovative therapies and widespread recognition across the Spanish social landscape, Aladina collaborates with 22 hospitals nationwide, serving over 2,000 children annually and 20,000 since our inception in 2005. Our groundbreaking approach integrates medical treatment with laughter, play, and love, especially benefiting adolescents who have historically been neglected in cancer care.
Beneficiary Story
Carmen Rocío, mother to Daniela and Valentina, shares her moving story: "Eighteen months ago, my five-year-old daughter, Daniela, was diagnosed with cancer. Our world was turned upside down. Through social media, I connected with Marta Brule, my oncological companion and friend. She has been an invaluable mentor, helping me navigate emotions and tackle this challenge with strength and empowerment. Despite our physical distance and connecting via Zoom, her support has been a cornerstone for our family."
Impact and Statistics
This year, we expanded our outreach to 22 public hospitals throughout Spain and provided support to 663 patients through psychological therapies. We facilitated 2,210 sessions via the "Together from Home" program and involved 386 children and adolescents in animal-assisted therapies with dogs and horses. Additionally, 81 siblings and 69 family members received support through our bereavement therapy programs, while 109 patients benefited from our physical exercise initiatives.
Call to Action and Conclusion
Annually, 2,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed among children and adolescents in our country. Our objective is clear: to extend our support programs—in psychological, material, emotional, and research capacities—to every affected child. To reach more hospitals and assist more children, we need your continued support. Together, we can profoundly impact the lives of these courageous young individuals and their families.
