Challenge

In Yobe State, many women and girls experience discrimination without knowing it violates their rights. This lack of awareness fuels harmful practices and silence. Cultural norms, low literacy levels, and weak access to information prevent families from understanding gender equality and Nigerian legal protections. Men and boys are often excluded from these discussions, reinforcing inequality and resistance to change, leaving women vulnerable and communities divided.

Solution

Change begins with knowledge and community engagement. This project will organize structured gender rights workshops and dialogue sessions for 250 participants, including men, women, youth, and leaders. Using simple language and culturally relevant examples, facilitators will teach women's rights, gender equality, and pathways for support. Engaging men as allies ensures shared responsibility, practical learning, and realistic, community-led behavior change.

Long-Term Impact

When communities understand gender rights, lasting change becomes possible. This project will increase respect for women's rights, reduce tolerance for discrimination, and strengthen women's confidence to participate in decisions. Men and leaders will adopt more equitable attitudes, influencing families and peers. Over time, the knowledge shared with 250 people will ripple outward, fostering safer households, stronger social cohesion, and sustainable gender equality in Yobe State.
