New friends, new opportunities

Zinfina's graduation with her mentors in Karaganda
Zinfina's graduation with her mentors in Karaganda

Dear friends,

Over the past three months, we have received 430 questionnaires throughout Kazakhstan. We have new 31 mentors and more than 136 children from orphanages across Kazakhstan are studying various school subjects with the tutors. They are preparing to enter universities and colleges.

In Shymkent, 2 new mentors have joined the project, and now there are 6 “Mentor-Child” pairs in it. Children are glad that they have older friends who can support them in difficult times, share their experience! Also in Shymkent, we have launched classes with tutors for 21 children. Children are studying English and mathematics. All classes are held in small groups; children attend classes with pleasure and do all their homework!

We also have new mentors in Karaganda! Four more teenagers from orphanages found their older friends - mentors. For now, these children and mentors are at the stage of getting to know each other! We wish them strong friendship and success!

The story of our one couple from Karaganda:

Zinfira and the Bosch family have been friends for almost 5 years. Zinfira has already graduated from the orphanage, moved to live in a hostel at an educational institution. She often visits her mentors who live across the street.

This couple has many vivid stories, one of them happened just when Zinfira was finishing school.

As you know, orphans do not attend graduation balls, which all classmates talk about for a whole year and prepare for several months. At the orphanage, Zimfira was also told that they would let her go to graduation. However, the girl had dreams. First, she wanted to go to the presentation of the certificate and not feel lonely. She dreamed that someone close to her would come and rejoice with her. Secondly, she wished to go to the prom together with her beloved classmates like other children from families with their parents.

Zinfira has no parents, but her mentors Elena and Vitaly promised her that they would come to the ceremony and take the girl to the prom, fulfilling her cherished dream. The mentors talked to the administration of the orphanage and, having received permission, were able to fulfill Zinfina's dream. Moreover, they could fulfil their promise. This strengthened their relationship even more and became a truly worthy example of friendship, understanding and love.

In Pavlodar, the year also began actively, and as a result, two more mentors have joined the project!

All mentors take an active part in the lives of children: they help with lessons, instill children in sports, and motivate them to learn something new.

In Pavlodar, we installed an advertising billboard in the city center about the project in order to attract new candidates for mentors.

Now in Pavlodar we are preparing for the holiday "Mentor's Day", which we will celebrate on June 4. At the holiday, mentors with children will have fun, play various games!

Our couple Lilia (mentor) and Aleksey started the story of their friendship quite well: relationships are being built easily. It means that with each meeting the mentor and the pupil of the orphanage are becoming closer. Since the period that the couple became together, Alexey has changed much: he became more confident, less anxious; he began to participate actively in games, activities, and events. Thanks to communication with a mentor, he has begun to be interested in professions.

In Uralsk, our mentors continue to meet with children actively. They walk together, attend various cultural events. Mentors actively attend the Mentor Club, where they receive useful tools and skills from specialists that contribute to the development of a strong friendship with a child from an orphanage. Our team from Uralsk is starting to implement the "Corporate Mentors" direction. The purpose of the direction is to help orphans in planning their lives and careers for successful socialization in society as well as the opportunity for the business community to help children left without parental care. Today, several companies in Uralsk have shown interest in the project and are ready to work with children on career guidance. Children will be able to get acquainted with these companies, get acquainted with the professions that are involved in this company and take an internship.

We wish the children success in mastering the profession!
