Namaste Everyone!
We hope this mail finds you all well.
This report does contain some details which you may find distressing. We have of course changed the name in accordance with our child safeguarding policy. The following was written by Pramila (name changed) who recently was admitted to Rescue Junction for care and protection.
Namaste!
My name is Pramilla and I am 13 years of age. My mother died but she had remarried and I was being brought up by my stepfather. When I was about 12, he started to abuse me coming into my bedroom at night and touching me. He made threats and told me he would throw me out of the house if I told anyone. I was frightened, felt alone and didn’t know what I could do to stop it, but over the time it got worse. In the end I plucked up the courage to tell my teacher at school. He told me he had suspected this for some time, and then said he would come to the house and speak to my stepfather. Then he joined in with my stepfather and they both abused me.
I considered suicide ...I did not know what to do.
Then one day the community outreach team from Rescue Junction came to our school and talked to my class. They were kind and gentle but they promised the children that they could keep us safe and protect us from harm. I asked to speak to the lady on the team alone and I told her everything and she told me it all stops now...
I went with her to Rescue Junction where I was made welcome and could do craft activities and they guided me through all processes very gently. I slowly gained confidence as I began to understand no one could hurt me anymore.
My teacher and my stepfather were arrested and put in jail and with Rescue Junction staff support I am having a fresh start in new state and a new school with a family on my mother’s side and I have a phone and I can talk to Rescue Junction any time I need help.
For the first year they will visit me also.
Thank you so much for your help for me and other children in distress and may god bless you
Pramila
Age 13
This letter has been translated from Hindi and has not been edited in order to reflect Pramila’s story in her own words
We urgently need your help today to keep the centre running.
With thanks
Priya
