Every month, girls and young women in Uganda miss school during their period due to lack of access to menstrual products. Girls For School Pads powered by Art of a Child has been making pads and menstrual workshops in 9 Ugandan underserved communities since 2019. We need more support to continue our mission to keep girls in school.
The lack of sanitary products is affecting womens education /Women are dropping out of school due to lack of access to sanitary products. This fact widens the educational gender gap and contributes to fewer employment opportunities for females. This is also a health issue as girls use unhygienic methods such as banana leaves and plastic bags containing soil that cause infections.
Reusable Sanitary Pads are a Reusable Affordable & Sustainable product for girls and young women. At Art of a Child we train women to produce reusable menstrual pads and provide menstrual health education. The goal of this project is to fight period poverty and stigma to ensure girls stay in school.
Girls that finish school have more chances of continuing to higher education, find better employment, avoid adolescent pregnancy and break the circle of poverty.
