Over the past quarter, Striving For All continued to expand its Girls in Tech program at the Thrive Center in Douala, Cameroon, engaging more than 30 girls in hands-on technology and innovation training. Participants focused on developing real-world solutions while preparing for submission to the Technovation international competition in April. The program emphasizes practical skill-building in problem-solving and product development, ensuring participants gain both technical and leadership experience.
A key highlight this quarter is the continued development of student-led projects addressing community challenges. Key initiatives include Mum HealthCare, a returning semi-finalist project from last year’s competition that is being further enhanced, and a solution focused on Sickle Cell Disease inspired by personal experience. These projects are developed alongside several other student-led innovations addressing local challenges. Implemented in partnership with Technovation and supported by Striving For All staff and volunteers, the program provides participants with mentorship and structured guidance throughout the process.
One participant shared her motivation behind her project: “I chose to work on this project because my brother is affected by sickle cell disease. I want to use technology to help families like mine and make a real difference.” This reflects a broader shift in mindset among participants, who are increasingly using technology not only as a skill, but as a tool for social impact and community problem-solving.
Overall, the program continues to build confidence, technical capability, and long-term interest in STEM pathways for girls. With two teams previously reaching the semi-finals of the Technovation competition, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of combining access, mentorship, and applied learning. This work is implemented in strong partnership with Technovation, whose collaboration provides girls with access to a global platform for innovation. We are grateful to our donors for making this impact possible, alongside our volunteers and staff who support the program’s delivery.
