Twenty-one girls have entered higher secondary schooling through the Girls' Education Project by Nepal Village Foundation. The girls' new school is about 5 kilometres away from their home. Walking to the school and back every day is difficult. This demotivates the girls to attend school regularly. The girls are from the poorest of the poor families and cannot afford a bicycle. Hence, this project will provide a bicycle to the girls so they can attend school regularly.
Higher secondary schools are far from villages in rural Nepal. The twenty-one girls who entered higher secondary schooling through the girls' education project have to walk 10 kilometres each day to attend their school. This demotivate the girls to attend school regularly and if they don't attend school regularly then it is difficult for them to pass all the exams. Our study found, over 80% of girls from the poorest family in rural villages of Nepal do not complete secondary schooling.
This project will provide a bicycle to the twenty-one girls which will enable them to attend school regularly. If the girls attend school regularly then the probability that they will pass all their exams is significantly high.
The twenty-one girls will be able to complete their higher secondary schooling, leading to an increased number of educated girls in the community from the poorest families.
