My name is Beatrice and I come from Epworth, 12 km outside Harare. Growing up, I dreamt of becoming a flight attendant but I did not know how this could be attained since my family was not able to help me financially. In 2007, at 17 years old I enrolled for a beauty therapy course at Rafiki Girls Centre. This training gave me my first job and I continued to advance myself as I now had an income to pay for other courses.
In 2013 I was given an opportunity to do a ticketing course and although I had saved up some money,it was not enough and my dream was still to do the flight attendent course.I approached the Rafiki director and told her about my dream to train as a flight attendent. She assisted me by appealing for funds to cover up the difference from supporters of Rafiki, in particular the Rafiki board. This however was just the beginning of bigger and better things!
Last year in 2015 I completed my flight attendant course and I now work for the Ethiopian Airline. I am based in South Africa and fly two routes, South Africa to Malawi and Malawi to Tanzania. The Rafiki training gave me a chance of a lifetime. It was my stepping stone. I am an independent woman because I am now working and can take of myself and my family. I take care of my mother and have managed to put electricity in our house in Epworth, something that I could never have done if I was unemployed. My family is very proud of me.
I know that besides me, Rafiki has transformed many other girls’ lives. I also know that everyone that has given to Rafiki has contributed to changing lives. Thank you Rafiki supporters !!!! My life will never be the same.

The sewing project is doing very well. Our desire is to be able to generate income that will be used to assist the training programs as well as give job opportunities to the girls at Rafiki. Our hope is that we find a market for our products.
