The new "Casa de Panchita"!

By Blanca Figueroa | Project Leader

New venue
New venue

Dear supporters,

We are settling into the new house. Our main question was one: “How is it possible to move into a venue of 240 meters, when for ten years we were used to more than 500 meters?”. Well, we are trying to make the most of the situation. We are donating furniture, materials, plants and many other things to groups supporting children in domestic work collaborating with AGTR (as well as other social welfare institutions).
At the same time we need to carefully plan all the activities carried out at the new venue:

  • The garage has been converted into a cozy space for Sunday workshops for girls in child domestic work. The problem is that now only 15 girls can attend, but the cost of the bus that takes them to La Casa de Panchita remains the same.
  • The flat roof of the house was converted into an open space for yoga and art workshops, although it is still cold, since spring has just begun in Lima.
  • We built a room with drywall, on the first floor, for our employment agency.
  • On the second floor there are four rooms. One is for the administrative staff. The other three are are for Childcare, English and computer workshops, expressive arts therapy, advocacy, and other activities.
On Sundays there is not a single free space. Of course, we are very happy about it! However, although the new venue is half the size, the rent had doubled!

We were worried that domestic workers and employers would not find the new house or would not get used to it, since the neighbourhood is not as good as the previous one. But we had a nice surprise:

"I got lost lost along the way, but I made it!" (Isolina, 27, domestic worker).

"The new house is blue! How nice!" (Luke, 3, son of the expressive arts therapist).

"This house has very large windows and I see that you could keep some of the plants!" (Malena, 19, and working from home).

"I'm starting to get used to the new house...slowly" (Clotilde, 23, a domestic worker).

Thank you for your support!
