Children's Aid Liberia (CAL) seeks to build and maintain a children's home providing basic needs, sanctuary, security, shelter, food, care, education, love, and hope to the orphans of Liberia who have been impacted by the Ebola crisis and Liberian Civil War, preparing them to be productive and thriving members of society.
The Liberian civil war and Ebola epidemic left innumerable victims. Parents were abducted or killed, leaving parentless children displaced from their homes and forced to fend for themselves on the streets of Monrovia and across Liberia. Many orphaned children have turned to activities such as child prostitution for survival. The majority of parents who survived can no longer provide basic needs such as food, clothing, and an environment conducive to good health for their children.
Deeply affected by this problem, Nelson and Pauline Dahn created CAL, initially pulling 20 orphans off the streets of Monrovia into their own home. Cal provides: -a refuge and home for vulnerable Liberian children -a sustainable environment in which children feel safe, secure, and comfortable and loved in the absence of their natural parents -basic healthcare for the children in our care -necessary structure for children in our care to build their capacities for future leadership opportunities.
It is expected that the number of juvenile beneficiaries shall increase from 20 to 250+ pending the expansion and improvement of the facility. Ultimately our dream is to see child-related crimes in the area to be reduced/eliminated and the children under care grow into thriving members of society. At CAL our goal is to give the children in our care a nurturing home and future full of purpose.
