Summary

Imagine being a student without digital access. Dar Moustaqbel, 'House of the Future', is a student home in Marrakech hosting 80 girls from underprivileged families. We offer our students the opportunity to pursue further education by offering a safe home where they can prosper. Getting a degree and entering the labour market isn't easy for girls from isolated villages. Being digitally connected is a necessity for students, that is why we need to invest in laptops for these young women.

Challenge

Morocco has always lagged behind in literacy, especially amongst women. If given the possibility to pursue further education, girls are working hard to be successful. For our hard-working students, a laptop is indispensable for their studies and future career chances. A diploma or university degree will facilitate acces to the labour market and offer a way out of poverty. And consequently, these young women will have a huge impact on their families and communities.

Solution

From the first day in Dar Moustaqbel, our students are offered a safe home, an in-house educational program, professional guidance and healthy food. Computer skills are also part of their training, but equipment is expensive. Due to Covid-19, we have come to understand the importance of technical support for our students to avoid study delays. Investing in access to the digital world, we increase the girls' effectiveness and learning capacity - a true investment in their professional future.

Long-Term Impact

All students in our student home are offered an internship, in order to gain work experience and to start building a professional network, every year. Having a laptop will support them in their studies and enhance their work experience. We are convinced that this will not only help their personal development, but it will also have significant long-term effect on their families and wider communities. According to Michelle Obama: "If you educate a girl, you educate the next generation".
