GlobalMedic has worked closely with local Ukrainian partners over the years. We are supporting internally displaced people as well as those exiting Ukraine into neighbouring countries with food, shelter, clean drinking water, hygiene items and more. We will continue to evaluate needs and gaps to see where programming can be most effective.
Ukraine has seen continuous fighting since February 24, 2022. The assaults have caused extensive disruptions in Ukraine's infrastructure and resources. In Ukraine, nearly 17.6 million people seek assistance with water, sanitation, and hygiene and more. Families are also at risk of contracting water-borne infections, which can be fatal, if they do not have access to safe drinking water.
Our Rapid Response Teams (RRT) have been on the ground in Moldova, Romania and Ukraine providing aid to Ukrainians displaced by the war. GlobalMedic has sent 49,336 Family Emergency Kits with a household water purification unit, hygiene items and a solar light to Ukraine and Moldova. In total, we have supported the packing and distribution of more than 511,388 food hampers for Ukrainian families.
As much as possible, GlobalMedic is purchasing aid in Ukraine and neighbouring countries in order to strengthen the economy and provide employment opportunities in vulnerable communities. We have shipped firefighting gear to strengthen capacity of local firefighters. We are also running food hamper and hot meal programs where Ukrainians are hired to help support refugees and internally displaced people.
