Ukraine Update May 2025
![]()
On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine sparking the fastest-growing refugee crisis since World War II. An estimated 8.1 million people fled the country with neighbouring countries seeing waves of refugees crossing their borders, seeking safety and support. At the peak, more than 8 million people were internally displaced and although many have returned home, there are still 3.6 million IDPs in Ukraine. Close to 12.7 million Ukrainians will require humanitarian assistance in 2025.
In 2025, GlobalMedic continues to support Ukrainians with food, water and medical aid. This year, we have sent two shipments each containing 1440 Family Emergency Kits including a household water purification unit, hygiene supplies and a solar light. These have proven very useful in Ukraine where frequent power outages can interfere with lighting and access to clean drinking water.
In April, GlobalMedic sent five 40' shipping containers with a total of 9.6 million vinyl gloves to Ukraine. These gloves will help ease a small burden for the Ukrainian health care system which has been overwhelmed since the onset of the war.
This year we have had 2 Rapid Response Teams volunteering their time in Romania, procuring food and packaging food hampers. In 2025, our teams have packed and delivered 2,900 food hampers to Ukraine.
