By Ana Cervantes Legorreta | International Fundraising at Casa de la Amistad
Thanks to your generous contributions, we have supported 30 low-income children and young people from Casa de la Amistad who have been diagnosed with cancer by covering specialized medical studies essential to their care. These studies enable physicians to accurately evaluate each patient’s response to oncological treatment and ensure that the selected protocol is the most appropriate for their specific diagnosis.
This support is especially critical in Mexico, where approximately 7,000 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed each year and cancer remains the leading cause of death from disease among children under 14 years of age. Although childhood cancer can be curable if detected early, survival rates in Mexico are currently 57%, compared to nearly 90% in the United States, largely due to delays in diagnosis, limited access to specialized care, and financial barriers.
By enabling early detection of complications, timely treatment adjustments, and uninterrupted access to high-quality medical services, your contributions help reduce these disparities and improve clinical outcomes.
This comprehensive approach strengthens Casa de la Amistad’s mission to provide equitable, dignified, and life-saving care, while contributing to a collaborative effort to increase childhood cancer survival rates in Mexico to 75% by 2030, offering children and their families a stronger opportunity for recovery and a healthier future.
