Farm to Empower's Kamanjab demonstration farm aims to provide fresh vegetables to three local schools, benefiting over 800 children. By training women in conservation agriculture, we address food insecurity and malnutrition in Namibia's rural communities, ensuring sustainable livelihoods and reliable access to nutritious food for those in need.
Food insecurity in Namibia affects over 40% of the population, with children suffering high malnutrition rates. The country has been experiencing a 30 year drought. Limited water, poor soil, and lack of resources make farming difficult, forcing reliance on food rations. This leads to hunger, poor health, and low school performance.
Farm to Empower addresses this problem by training women in conservation agriculture to sustainably grow food in this arid climate. We have already secured the land for the future garden and demonstration farm as well as drilled a 120m deep well for a reliable water source. We will sustainably grow food to provide nutrition to over 800 children at 3 local primary schools. This community driven project will reduce hunger and strengthen community resilience in the area.
The project will ensure long-term food security, improving nutrition for over 800 children while reducing reliance on food imports. Training women in conservation agriculture, it creates economic opportunities and strengthens community resilience. Climate-smart farming enhances sustainability, while surplus crops will boost local markets. Improved child health and education outcomes will break cycles of poverty. As a scalable model, this can inspire agricultural projects across Namibia.
