Advance in Water Security for Community Farm

By Billie Zuschin | Director Farm to Empower

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

We are excited to share a significant milestone in our journey to establish the Kamanjab Community Farm in Namibia. Thanks to your generous support, we have successfully drilled a borehole reaching a depth of 160 meters, securing access to a reliable and clean water source for our agricultural initiatives.

Key Achievements:

  • Borehole Drilling Completed: The borehole has been successfully drilled to a depth of 160 meters, providing access to clean water essential for crop cultivation and daily farm operations.

  • Enhanced Agricultural Capacity: With a dependable water source identified, we are poised to implement conservation agriculture practices, improving food security and nutrition for the local community.

  • Community Empowerment: This development enables us to offer training programs for women in sustainable farming techniques, fostering economic independence and community resilience.

Next Steps:

To fully utilize the water from the borehole, we aim to install a solar-powered pump system. This sustainable solution will enable efficient water extraction, essential for irrigation and supporting the farm's operations.

Funding Needs:

The estimated cost for a solar-powered pump system suitable for our 160-meter-deep borehole ranges from N$45,000 to N$80,000, depending on specifications and installation requirements. This investment will ensure a consistent water supply, vital for the farm's success and the community's well-being.

Call to Action:

We are currently seeking additional funding to procure and install the solar pump system. Your continued support is crucial in helping us achieve this goal. Contributions will directly impact the community by enabling sustainable agriculture, improving nutrition, and empowering local women through education and employment opportunities.

Thank you for being an integral part of our mission to create a self-sustaining and empowered community in Kamanjab. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

Warm regards,

Farm to Empower
