Challenge

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on August 14, 2021. Thousands of people have been displaced, injured and killed and these numbers are expected to rise. Reports indicate 700 buildings have collapsed and 12,200 houses have been damaged or destroyed. Damage to infrastructure was further aggravated by aftershocks, landslides and localized flooding. There is an urgent need for shelter, medical support, food and clean water to help keep affected people healthy and safe.

Solution

Our field hospitals and critical infrastructure tenting can support the overwhelmed hospitals and health care providers. They can also be used to shelter people, or safely store aid for distributions. We are also preparing to send Emergency Food Kits and Family Emergency Kits. Emergency Food Kits provide families with 2-3 weeks worth of pantry staples. Family Emergency Kits contain a household water purification solution, hygiene items, a solar light and oral rehydration salts.

Long-Term Impact

Family Emergency Kits can provide up to a year's worth of clean drinking water. Emergency Food Kits are packed in sturdy, food-grade plastic pails which can be repurposed to safely store water after they are emptied. Critical infrastructure tents are left in country to be repurposed by disaster response teams for future emergencies.
