A Mother's Strength
For the past two decades, 48-year-old Madam Sunita has been bravely battling kidney failure. Diagnosed in 2002, her condition took a more serious turn in November 2024 when she had to begin dialysis treatment. Despite the physical toll, she remains a pillar of strength for her family of five.
Her husband, a lorry driver, brings home just RM700 a month which is barely enough to sustain their daily needs. Their daughter, working as a secretary, does what she can by contributing RM1,800 to support the household. But even with their combined efforts, the family struggles to keep up with the increasing medical expenses.
The cost of regular dialysis sessions places a heavy burden on their shoulders. Her husband, determined to provide the best care for her, often resorts to borrowing money from his company just to ensure she doesn’t miss her treatments.
Understanding the challenges they face, Great Heart Charity Association has stepped in to lend a helping hand. A monthly dialysis treatment subsidy of RM720 was provided to help ease the family’s financial strain and ensure that Sunita can continue receiving the medical care she needs.
Madam Sunita’s story is a reminder of the quiet battles many families face every day. Through it all, her love for her family and their unwavering support for her remain a powerful testament to resilience and hope.
A Father's Resilience
At just 36-years-old, Mr Fauzi's life has taken a drastic turn. Diagnosed with kidney failure in September 2024, he now grapples with not only the demands of dialysis treatment but also a host of other serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, and tuberculosis (TB). These complications have led to frequent hospital admissions, as his health continues to decline.
Mr Fauzi is a devoted father to his only child, and his family is doing all they can to support him through this difficult journey. His wife, resourceful and determined, sells traditional snacks online to make ends meet. However, her monthly income of just RM200 is far from sufficient to cover the extensive treatment and dialysis costs. On top of that, she juggles her time between managing the small business and caring for her husband around the clock.
Recognising the immense financial strain this family is under, Great Heart Charity Association has stepped in to provide some relief. A monthly dialysis aid subsidy of RM720 has been granted to help ease the burden of Mr Fauzi’s medical expenses.
Mr Fauzi’s story is one of quiet resilience of a young father fighting to regain his health and a wife who continues to stand by his side with unwavering strength. It is through the collective support of the community that families like theirs can continue to hold on to hope.
