Our collaboration with the Lomshiyo Community Trust has yielded the Lomshiyo Farm, a flagship endeavour in Commercial Sustainable Community Agriculture. Spanning 100 hectares, this initiative integrates a robust 15-hectare section dedicated to macadamia nut farming alongside extensive vegetable cultivation. Profits from the farm are equitably shared between Care for Wild and the Lomshiyo Community Trust, marking a significant stride towards sustainable economic growth and local empowerment.
Establishing and expanding the Lomshiyo Farm presents multifaceted challenges. These include scaling agricultural operations sustainably while ensuring optimal resource management and crop productivity. Enhanced infrastructure and skilled labor are essential for maximizing yield and economic benefit to the community. Additionally, maintaining ecological balance and mitigating environmental impact remain pivotal amidst agricultural expansion.
Care for Wild works closely with the Lomshiyo Community Trust to bolster agricultural productivity and sustainability. Plans entail expanding crop and macadamia production across 500 hectares and incorporating citrus and avocado plantations. Strategic investments in greenhouses and protective net structures optimise growing conditions. These advancements promise enhanced crop quality, increased commercial viability, and sustainable income streams for both partners.
Lomshiyo Farm will bring enduring socio-economic benefits. By generating up to 500 employment opportunities, including permanent and seasonal jobs, the initiative supports local livelihoods, creates economic resilience and enhances food security. This holistic approach underscores Care for Wild's commitment to integrating conservation with community development, ensuring a future where wildlife thrives alongside prosperous, empowered communities.
