The elderly program provides them a health service at their homes besides the lunch distribution on weekends and holidays. A nurse evaluate the elders prior to start being a participant to determine their health conditions. Once he/she joins the program the nurse continue with follow up visits by priority as they are many participants. Most of them have health conditions: diabetes, heart diseases, high blood pressure or skin ulcers. The nurse refers the participant to a doctor if necessary. She also share prevention information with the patient and relatives. This service have been very effective as the participants health had become more stable, and chronic diseases and hospitalizations had decreased.
