This project will build practice golf sites at a mixture of public and private schools in Nassau. This will allow us to bring golf to where the students are. Bahamian schools typically offer culturally popular sports including basketball, soccer, and Track & Field. This produces kids who miss the core values inherent to the game of golf. With the school golf program, we have seen that our kids love golf, and would play if given the opportunity. These school sites provide that rare opportunity.
There are currently not enough spaces for children in The Bahamas to practice golf, leaving the children with the only option of playing the traditional sports of basketball or Track&Field. This continues the trend of our youth mainly participating in sports which do not provide the blend of wonderful core values that golf provides. This puts our country at a disadvantage of not having a sport which can change our landscape through our youth.
Our youth will begin to learn a sport with wonderful core values. They will practice a sport where they must practice integrity, sportsmanship, and other values. They will have less exposure to sports which require them to win at any costs. This will create an entirely new culture with our youth, and hopefully produce better young adults.
Golf statistics have proven that it creates individuals who are comfortable dressing for success. It produces individuals with a great sense of time/schedule management. It produces individuals with a greater sense of integrity. Most importantly, it shows our young people that golf is a sport for everyone. They not only have a chance to play, but they have a facility at their school or neighborhood, which tells them that golf is for THEM. It allows them to dream, which is the biggest of all.
