Access to meaningful recreational spaces has long been a barrier for youth in The Bahamas when it comes to learning and playing golf. Unlike basketball or track and field, golf has not traditionally been seen as an accessible option for most children. The absence of public practice spaces and school-based programs has made it difficult for young Bahamians to engage with a sport that teaches patience, focus, and personal responsibility. As a result, many children have been steered toward more familiar sports, missing out on the unique values and long-term benefits golf has to offer.
We are proud to report that our school golf program is already in full effect and making significant strides. From January through March of this year, the program reached approximately 400 students from both public and private primary schools. More than 600 rounds of golf were played, and we witnessed a tremendous increase in the number of school teams actively practicing and preparing for future events. This momentum reflects a growing interest and excitement around the game of golf among young Bahamians. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Capital Union Bank and the other generous sponsors whose support made this program possible.
The impact of the program has been inspiring. Students are already showing signs of increased discipline, improved time management, and stronger interpersonal values—hallmarks of the game of golf. Many of them take pride in arriving early, dressing appropriately, and carrying themselves with confidence and respect. These shifts in behavior reinforce our belief that golf has the power to shape not only better athletes but better citizens. We are watching a new generation embrace a sport that challenges both character and skill in a positive and lasting way.
Looking ahead, our focus remains on expanding access to quality golf facilities to meet the growing demand. While we have not yet secured the necessary funding to begin construction on the next site, this goal remains high on our agenda. As we continue our push to reach 10,000 Bahamian youth through the game of golf, we are actively seeking additional space and resources to ensure every child has the chance to play, learn, and grow through this sport. Together, with the continued support of our partners and sponsors, we are building something truly transformative for the future of youth sports in The Bahamas
