Selection on the Vocational for 2021 Intake

Dear Donors,

We hope this report finds you well.

We would like to inform you about the progress of the selection process in our vocational scholarship intake. As we inform you in the previous reports, we made the announcement of the intake in this scholarship program in December 2020. We give one month for the students to prepare themselves if they want to apply for this opportunity. The deadline was January 31, 2021, but they have the chance to ask anything that they need to know through WhatsApp messaging or directly meet the YKIP staff during the donation distribution in their area.

They need to prepare some documents to apply for the Vocational Scholarship. They will need to get one recommendation letter from the headmaster in their school and another letter from their classroom teachers. Other requirements including the statement letter from the head of the neighborhood stating that they come from a family with a low income. They also need to prepare a copy of their report card from the first to the fifth semester in Senior High School.

Another important document that they need to submit is the motivation letter. In the motivation letter, the candidate should explain why she is the one that fits the scholarship. She also needs to write her background, her achievements, and how she sees herself after getting the training if she is the one who gets the scholarship.

This year, we get 10 applications for the vocational scholarship. The first selection is the administrative selection. After we finished the administrative selection, we will continue to the next selection process. We will notify the students who are qualified for the second selection, and continue with the field survey to the student's home.

The Selection Process Begins on the Career Day

May this report finds you well,

On December 13, YKIP held our first ever online Youth Career Planning Workshop YCPW or known as career day among our students. Career day is the annual event that we have with the 12th graders. The event's aim is to give as much information to the students about the opportunity available for them after they finishing their senior high school. We usually invite people from the industry, HR practitioners, and entrepreneurs to share their stories with the children and inspire them.

The event usually is a full-day event, but YCPW 2020 is a very special event. It is held during the pandemic where we cannot gather the student in the same place. Instead, we have them gathering online. The students are participating in using zoom and to our surprise, their enthusiasm was the same as the last year's event. We made the event to be a half-day event. We sent the students phone credits so they can buy an internet package to be used for the online meeting. For those who are in the area with a poor internet signal, we advised them to find a place where the signal is good. They can join from the place with a strict health protocol, supervised by the older students who are in college now.

There are three speakers invited: one HR practitioner, one graduated student who starting her business, and one speaker from the government training center. The HR practitioner, Mr. Rhoy Kurniawan inform the students about how to make a good CV and preparing themself for a job interview. So many questions asked by participants, and they are satisfied with the answer given by Mr. Kurniawan.

Juliasih, one of YKIP sponsored students who worked in a hotel came to share her story of being an entrepreneur pioneering her own business with her husband. Because of the pandemic, the hotel where she worked is closed. To survive, she decided to sell meatballs. Not only she sells it in the stall, but she also promoted her business online. She shared tips on how to start a business, especially in the culinary area.

The third speaker, Mrs. Alit from the government training center shared the opportunity to get training in the government training center and what benefits the students get from this government-owned training center.

The last part of the career day is the part when YKIP announced to the students the opportunity to be one of YKIP Vocational or University Program beneficiaries. We informed the students about the Vocational program and how they can apply for the program.

To apply for the scholarship, the student needs to submit some documents such as their report card from the first semester to the fifth semester of senior high school, a recommendation from the school, and most important that the student needs to submit the motivation letter explaining why YKIP should give them the opportunity to get the one-year training under the vocational program.

The students who are showing their interest in this opportunity has given us a lot of questions regarding the requirements, and we are happy to see their enthusiasm. They have started to prepare the documents and contacting their school for the recommendation. We hope that this process will be smooth They will need to submit their document by 31 January 2021. We will update you the selection process once we get to the next step.
