In many rural parts of Nigeria, long distances and unsafe walking routes stop girls from attending school regularly. This project will provide 100 bicycles to rural girls, reducing travel time and fatigue, and increasing school attendance. With bicycles, girls can arrive on time, attend more classes, and pursue education without the daily struggle of unsafe and exhausting walks. Your donation will help break barriers that prevent rural girls from staying in school.
Many rural girls in Nigeria face long, unsafe walks to school, often exceeding 5-10 km daily. The fatigue and lateness reduce classroom focus, while safety risks discourage regular attendance. Poverty limits parents' ability to provide transport, leading to school dropouts. Girls are most affected, with barriers that keep them behind boys in school completion rates. Without safe and reliable transport, many risk abandoning education altogether.
This project will distribute 100 bicycles to rural schoolgirls along with helmets, reflective jackets, and basic repair kits. Girls will also receive training on bicycle maintenance to keep them functional long-term. The bicycles will cut travel time to school from hours to minutes, reduce fatigue, and allow girls to arrive on time and ready to learn. With safer transport, the girls are more likely to stay in school and complete their education.
With bicycles, rural girls will have consistent access to education, raising their chances of completing secondary school. Education gives them better opportunities for jobs and independence in adulthood. Girls who complete school are also more likely to delay early marriage and improve health and nutrition within their families. This project lays the groundwork for generational change, as educated women pass on the value of education to their children.
