Most children begging on the streets in Nigeria have lost their parents or were left behind. Without family care or education, they grow up without any way to earn a living. Many turn to petty theft and street gangs for survival. This project will train 1,000 children in useful hand skills like welding, shoe making, tailoring, and mechanics. It will help them leave the streets and live a more stable life through daily income from honest work.
In many Nigerian cities, children roam the streets begging for food or money. Most have no parents, no schooling, and no means to earn. As they grow up, some start stealing from shops or join gangs to survive. With no skills or guidance, they are left to repeat cycles of poverty and street life. Without help, many will be stuck in this condition for years or for life.
This project will train street begging children in hand skills they can use to earn a living. Skills include tailoring, shoe making, welding, mechanics, and other trades. The children will also get food, basic care, and a place to learn in safety. After training, they will receive simple tools or be linked to jobs with local artisans to start earning immediately.
Children who complete the skill training will be able to earn daily income and support themselves. Many will leave the streets for safer lives. Some may go on to run small businesses or train others. With fewer children on the streets, local crime may also reduce. The project can also help shift public attitudes, showing that these children can live useful and honest lives.
