Street Begging Children Growing Up Without Skills

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the Help 1,000 Street Begging Children with Work Skills project. Your generosity shows concern for children who survive on the streets without education or guidance. Although some contributions have been received, the current amount can only support training for two children at this stage. We respectfully seek additional support so that many more children can benefit from this program.

In many Nigerian cities, children spend their days begging on busy roads, markets, and public places. Many have lost their parents or were separated from family care. Without access to school or training, they grow up with no practical skills to support themselves. As they get older, some are pushed into petty theft or gang activity simply to survive.

As stated in our previous report, before beginning enrollment we must complete important consent procedures, and this process is still ongoing. Our team is currently visiting families of children who still have parents or guardians to discuss how their children can safely join the training program. For children who have no parents, we have written a formal request to the chairman of their association to obtain approval on their behalf. These steps are necessary to protect the children and confirm their participation.

Once these discussions and approvals are completed, we will begin enrolling participants and start the training sessions. The program will teach practical trades such as tailoring, welding, shoe making, and mechanics. During training, the children will receive meals, basic care, and a safe learning environment.

After completing the training, participants will receive simple tools or be connected with local artisans so they can begin earning income through honest work.

While preparation is ongoing, we are still unable to start full enrollment. Additional support will allow us to train many more children beyond the two currently covered by existing donations.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
