Help 40 kids acquire ECD Education in Kibera Kenya

David is eight years old and lives in Kianda, one of Kibera’s informal settlements. At his age, he was already three grade levels behind in school. This was not because he was not intelligent or capable, but because life had placed heavy responsibilities on him far too early.

Instead of spending his days learning alongside other children, David often stayed home to care for his younger siblings while his family worked to survive. Education had become something difficult to prioritize in the middle of daily challenges.

When our team first met David, he was at home babysitting. It quickly became clear that he was a child at risk of losing both his education and the opportunities that come with it. We knew we could not walk away.

Our team returned and spent time speaking with his aunt. With patience and encouragement, we shared the importance of giving David the chance to go back to school. Thankfully, she agreed, and David was enrolled.

When he first joined, David was very quiet and withdrawn. Like many children who have faced difficult circumstances, he struggled with confidence and often kept to himself. Through mentorship sessions focused on resilience, encouragement, and emotional support, we slowly began to see change.

Week by week, David started opening up. The boy who once avoided speaking now participates in class discussions, interacts freely with others, and walks through school with growing confidence and hope.

The new academic year begins! We are delighted to welcome young children in Kibera into safe, nurturing learning spaces through our ECDE Programme. For many of these children, this marks their first experience of structured learning—an important milestone that lays the foundation for their educational journey.

This programme goes beyond teaching basic literacy and numeracy skills. It provides children with a stable routine, positive social interaction, and a supportive nurturing environment where they can grow emotionally and socially. Within these classrooms, children learn to share, express themselves, follow routines, and develop confidence. We have seen children who once arrived shy and unsure begin to participate actively, form friendships, and show excitement for learning.
