Impact on Our Work on Virtual Volunteering

By Jacquiline Lidonde | Executive Director

Although 2020 was a challenging year for many organizations, we are grateful for our donors’ continuous support, who enables us to continue making an impact by serving our nonprofits partners. We support 22 local nonprofit grassroots organizations in Kenya by providing them with a platform to match them with skills-based volunteers. We currently have over 300 volunteers from 19 countries and growing who can donate their skills virtually.

Here are a few of our impact stories: Through the VoluCulture online platform, Somo Africa, nonprofit supporting entrepreneurs from informal settlements was matched with over ten volunteer judges who helped the entrepreneurs with their business plans.  Three volunteers were able to help Disability Rights Trust, an organization that serves people with disabilities, create a COVID 19 digital campaign. The Garden of Hope Foundation was matched with a volunteer, Anne, who currently serves as one of its Board of Directors. She helps the organization deliver results and offer strategic advice to support their work for the youth, women, girls, and children.

We also held digital classrooms to help build our nonprofit partners’ build capacity in volunteer management, branding, and fundraising. Finally, we carried out a 10-week Community-Based Learning Internship Program to work with university students from the seven leading universities in Kenya. The interns created volunteer management and child policy documents developed for our nonprofit partners as a training guide to support their work. We promoted student learning and development and the culture of community building and local philanthropy amongst university students.

We have developed strategies and continue to focus on onboarding 500 local grassroots nonprofit organizations to access virtual volunteers, especially during this pandemic season.
