Common Area Improvements Should Begin by August

Women's group meeting to discuss project details

My February/March trip to Uganda saw much progress made in advancing our home ownership project.  We have identified the list of the five most important common area improvments that need to be made to the land that is part of our home ownership project.  Some of these such as the drilling of a well, bringing electricity to the property, and developing the sewage system should be done as soon as possible, before construction on homes begins.  According to our time table that we developed, we will start on these improvements during the third quarter of this year.

Other common area improvements can be worked on as funds become availalbe such as the construction a community building, and the construction of a central area market shop section which women can rent out on a monthly basis to operate small neighborhood businesses.  We hope to find additional funders either within Uganda or the U.S. who might want to make donations for these items.  Similarly, our current temporary property fencing can be replaced with a more permanent fence as funds become available, and the few interior dirt roads and paths can be replaced with upgraded materials as funding becomes available..

Once we have water and electricity on the property, we can begin construction on the first phase of ten to twelve homes. We hope this can begin before year-end!  Our Ugandan women remain very enthusiastic and continue saving money to put towards home down payments.  The photo shows us meeting with the women's group in a meeting that ran into the evening as we talked about more details of this project.

Thank you for your support in helping us get to this point!  If you know others that might like to become involved, or if you have connections to local U.S. companies that might be wiling to help with a specific item, please let us know!
