Mark Stones in Place to Show Each Home Plot

Chairperson Christine Explains Project Benefts

We continue to make progress on the overall common area improvements to the property for the home ownership project.  We believe that our slow and steady progress will soon bear fruit!  Since our last report in November, we have continued to explore and fine tune the bids we have received for well drilling.  Soon, we will know how much funds other donors have raised to help provide for the well drilling.

We continue to explore options for providing either electricity or solar power to our site, and expect to have that issued resolved before summer.  Meanwhile, our surveyor has marked out all the home plots on the property so it will be clear where plots and interior roads are located.  We've included a photo which shows me, Christine, Nekolina, the group's current and immediate past chairpersons, and 1 other group member standing on the four mark stones which show one particular housing plot.

The ladies continue to save their down payment monies and look forward to when home building will begin later this year. Chrstine explained, "The ladies are excited because they can settle in a good place compared to where they are now [in the slums]."  Nekolina Opwa, past chairperson chimed in, "The houses where the women are now are not good houses that people are supposed to live in. It's only a tiny room separated with a curtain."

We thank you for your support and continued patience as we progress on the common improvements! We look forward to the time when these women and their families have a decent place to live which will give stability to their lives.
