Development Plan & Women's Savings Both Progress

By Carol Davis | President

Your donations will help Betty own a home!

We thank our donors for the vision to participate in the beginning stages of our Home Ownership Project for our Jinja women.  Doing great things is never easy and we appreciate your support in the early, less glamorous, but very key foundational stage of this project.  We are currently working on the development plan while the women continue to save for their down payment money on their homes, and work on building the leadership within their group so that they continue to be unified and single minded in their focus on attaining eventual home ownership for as many group members as possible.

We continue to make progress and the women's savings accounts continue to grow as they save as much of their business earnings as possible. Even their savings task is made more difficult by other women, and relatives who may be jealous of them and want to distract them or cause them to fail in their efforts.  That is why we continue to work with them closely and to help them support each other.

We see that the next six months will be key months to complete the development plan and submit it for approval, while also monitoring the ladies' savings efforts and encouraging their leadership to also support their members in saving monies.  We expect that the women's group Land Committee will be very active during the remainder of the year, as many key decisions will need to be made about the project.

We'll keep you posted with reports and photos especially as we spend time in Uganda with them during the summer months! In the meantime, you can support the women by buyiing their paper beaded craft products, and by letting your friends and families know about this project.

Thanks again for all your help!
