Your support to help a Nepali child remain with family can be matched!

"Menaka" at school through Kinship Care

Your donation to support children like “Menaka” can be matched by GlobalGiving's Little by Little Matching campaign until this Friday, April 12!

After Menaka’s father died of a heart attack, her widowed mother remarried. The family of five, including Menaka’s two older sisters was adjusting to their new life when the 2015 earthquake devastated their home in Dhading. With the family barely scraping by, Menaka was at risk of ending her education prematurely because her family simply couldn’t afford it.

Fortunately, they were able to turn to NYF for help. Through Kinship Care, Menaka received monthly stipends and regular check in visits from NYF staff. She was able to remain with her family and continue her studies in her familiar village.

With her family’s financial situation back to normal, Menaka no longer needs Kinship Care support. She is happily studying in the 9th grade, and her parents now proudly manage the school fees and other materials.

---

It’s been almost four years since two earthquakes devastated much of Nepal in April 2015.

While NYF’s Earthquake Relief and Reconstruction program completed in 2017, we continued supporting 591 families through our Kinship Care program in 2018. Over the course of the year, 214 families regained self-sufficiency.

Of the original 742 families accepted into the program after the earthquakes, half of the families regained self-sufficiency by the end of 2018, leaving 377 continuing in the program.

Your support means at-risk Nepali children like Menaka can remain with their family and start or continue their education. And if you make a gift by this Friday, it can be matched, helping NYF support even more children in need.

Thank you. Dhanyabad!
