17+ M people are facing severe food insecurity following the Horn of Africa's fourth failed rainy season. Ongoing conflicts & other crises make a streamlined supply chain in response to this emergency that much more challenging. Across the region, high transportation cost is a major blocker for the humanitarian community. Airlink is mobilizing airline and freight forwarding partners to provide a reliable and sustainable transportation network to overcome these logistical & financial challenges.
With this level of food insecurity in the region and clean water becoming scarce, population movements will likely increase as families leave their homes in search of food, losing access to health services and increasing the risk of disease outbreaks. People in need of medical attention face an already overwhelmed and under-resourced health system, ill equipped to provide care for all affected due to the compounded shock of drought, flooding, ongoing conflict, and COVID-19.
Having worked across the African continent for years, Airlink is again mobilizing airline & freight forwarding partners to provide an airbridge - a reliable & sustainable transportation network that overcomes the logistical & financial challenges relief orgs. face in delivering critical aid into the region. Airlink is already coordinating flights for our relief partners w/ a growing pipeline of requests & coordination calls with partners underway to asses demand & collaborative opportunities.
So far, Airlink has helped transport critical aid and expert responders that will impact an estimated 65,00 individuals across the region. We are currently working to identify more NGO partners in need of transportation assistance, as well as establishing partnerships with airlines and, where in-kind airlift is not available, donors to assist with transportation for supplies to address nutrition, health, clean water, & hygiene needs, as well as technical experts to develop & administer programs.
