Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine upended the lives of millions of people, Americares responded immediately and has not stopped. Through a network of local partners, Americares has delivered medicine, medical supplies, health services, and mental health support to communities across Ukraine and the region, ensuring that health care reaches those who need it most.
Years of war has caused widespread destruction to health facilities, energy infrastructure and civilian areas. People living in Ukraine face many barriers to health: Attacks on health care, a shrinking health workforce, lack of medicine, rising health care costs and financial uncertainty make accessing health care difficult. In addition, 3.8 million people in Ukraine are displaced, uprooted in search of safety.
Americares focuses its support on local Ukraine organizations, providing them with medicine, medical and relief supplies, technical support and training, while mainstreaming protection work to reach populations most in need of humanitarian aid, including women, children and older people. We are focusing our response in three main areas: medicine and support for health services, mental health and psychosocial support and strengthening the capacity and sustainability of Ukrainian organizations.
With your support, Americares will remain a major source of support for health systems, health providers, mental health programs, and other resources for the millions of people dealing with the acute disruptions and lasting trauma of the worst humanitarian crisis Europe has faced in nearly a century.
