Four years ago, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine upended the lives of millions of people. Americares responded immediately and has not stopped. Through a network of local partners, Americares has delivered medicine, medical supplies, health services, and mental health support to communities across Ukraine and the region, ensuring that health care reaches those who need it most.
THE WAR TODAY
Russia’s war against Ukraine enters its fifth year with no end in sight. Daily strikes continue across central Kyiv and eastern frontline areas, causing widespread destruction to health facilities, energy infrastructure and civilian areas.
MEDICINE & HEALTH SERVICES
Americares has coordinated more than 200 shipments of medicine and medical supplies into Ukraine and neighboring countries, partnering with local organizations to ensure resources reach frontline health workers and vulnerable communities.
STRENGTHENING LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS
Americares approach centers on building the longterm capacity of Ukrainian local partners, ensuring that organizations can sustain their work long after the immediate crisis recedes.
MENTAL HEALTH & PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT
Recognizing that war’s wounds are not only physical, Americares has prioritized mental health from the start, funding local partners, building capacity, and delivering direct psychosocial support to frontline workers and communities.
LOOKING AHEAD
As the war in Ukraine enters its fifth year, Americares remains committed to its local partners and the communities they serve. Active programs in 2026:
IMPACT STORY
Seven-year-old Roman's* journey from trauma to hope shows the power of mental health support in the wake of a crisis. After being rescued from Mariupol by his older brother, who is now Romans's only guardian, they struggled in a new city with finding support for his speech disorders and socialization challenges.
Through Americares supported mental health programming, provided by partner Divchata at the "I Can, Pechersk" center in Ukraine, he received the support he needed. Thanks to proper support through speech therapy, neurocorrection exercises and art therapy, his life has been transformed for the better. Today, Roman is confidently preparing for school and building friendships with his peers.
