Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary is a loving and permanent home to cats who don't have a future. Blind cats are considered unadoptable and euthanized in most shelters before they ever get a chance for a home. Since opening in 2005, we've been that chance for these cats, offering them a forever home and making sure they are never abandoned, hungry or frightened again. In 2011, we opened our doors and hearts to cats who test positive for FIV and feline leukemia, offering them the same safe forever.
Every year 1.4 million cats are euthanized in shelters. Of those cats, many are healthy but blind and never get the chance to find a loving home. These cats are thrown away to live on their own, taken to vets to be euthanized or have been strays living in harm's way. Until the world learns that blind cats can and do live normal lives, this will never change. BCR offers life to the cats we welcome and enlightenment to a global audience of people who will share this important message.
The BCR cats are the best teachers - demonstrating to people on a daily basis that they deserve to live and having loving homes. With a strong social media presence, 24-hour access cameras, regularly scheduled open houses, daily live tours, partnerships and volunteer opportunities, the cats themselves raise awareness around the globe just by living their lives and loving the people they meet. Their lives encourage others to adopt cats just like them, who can and should be family pets.
The more people who discover that blind cats and FIV- and leukemia-positive cats are just normal cats, the more these cats everywhere will find adopters to give them the loving homes and lives hey were meant to live. These cats will no longer suffer abandonment, hunger, fear or abuse in a harsh world. In a trend we'd love to see be global, the number of cats euthanized in shelters will be reduced.
