The Difference Between Life and Death

By Samantha Steffens | Executive Director

New Arrival Han Solo
New Arrival Han Solo

Hello, friends –

With your help and support, Blind Cat Rescue has started 2024 strong!  Here’s a sample of what we’ve been up to and the ways we’re changing how people think about blind, FIV- and leukemia-positive cats, learning that they deserve to life their lives to the fullest!

·      We’re creating new content to cast a wider net on social media sites like Instagram to engage younger people in our mission.
·      We’re revamping our Facebook group page for a more user-friendly and encouraging experience that includes all users.
·      We’ve reinstated our evening tour and chat sessions on Mondays and Fridays at 6 p.m. on two different social media platforms to give those in different parts of the world as well as folks in the US who are home from work a chance to visit with our wonderful cats.
·      We launched a video series telling the individual stories of the BCR cats.

All these accomplishments are happening because you cared.

Not only that, you’re still saving lives.  Since we last wrote, we’ve also welcomed several new cats to BCR whose lives have been saved and transformed.  Meet:

Billy Bob – This poor feline leukemia-positive senior boy lost both his “parents” at the same time.  Of the fifteen cats in their home, only Billy Bob tested leukemia positive.  He had consistent vet care, so he came to BCR in pretty good shape. We’re so happy he’s here and that his life will be stable from now on.  He is adjusting, having gone through so much change, but he’s found a great pal in another new arrival, and they help each other.

Han Solo - This older boy was living the hard life of a stray.  When he was rescued, he tested double positive (FIV and feline leukemia).  His rescuers knew that underneath the fear he showed, he was a very sweet boy and deserved to live.  They all wanted to see him go to a loving home and to live out his life happy and healthy - that’s where BCR comes in!  Han Solo saw our vet for a full exam and was neutered.  He’s starting to embrace his new life and the love he’s getting!  He’s just as sweet as could be.

Mia – This blind girl was part of a community cat colony and was found living under a bush.  We can only imagine how terrifying her life had been.  A very dedicated rescuer got her to a temporary sanctuary and then flew her to us!  Mia is still slow to trust people and we’re doing our best to keep her happy and comfortable until she lets us know she’s ready.  We’re happy she’s safe and she won’t have to be afraid ever again.

You changed each of these cat’s lives through your gifts to BCR.  For them, you made the difference between life and death.

Our pledge to all the cats at BCR is that whatever they need during their lives, we’ll be there to provide it for them.  Your generous donations to this campaign allow us to keep this all-important promise to them.

Thank you for sharing your love and compassion with our cats!  We hope you’ll drop in for a visit to see your love in action if  you are on the US East Coast.  You an always see the cats on our 24-hour live cameras if you can’t visit!   https://blindcatrescue.com/watchus.htm

With deep gratitude,
Samantha and the Cats
