At last there is Rain in Darfur and people can Plant but harvest is still far off

By Sage Lancaster | Project Leader

We are glad to tell you that the rains have at last come to Darfur, the grass is beginning to shoot and provide food for animals, and those families who have managed to save seed are planting seeds for the next harvest. But it will be several months before the next crop grows and families have food at last. This time of year is known in Darfur as 'The Hungry Months'.  This year, which has been the worst we have known we have to continue to help those families who are hungry, and who have no seed to plant because they were forced to eat it during the year of famine.

Thanks to your generosity, the generosity of our local supporters, and our UK-based Summer Weekend event, we have already been able to provide aid to over 2,360 children and their families but we need to continue.  We are so grateful to you for supporting our Urgent Appeal for life-saving funds to provide food to families. Kids for Kids is the only organisation helping these poor families struggling in the villages of Darfur.

Worryingly, many more families are still in need of help. Our initial goal was to help the 3,000 worst-off families, and we are working to achieve this. We need to provide seed that can be planted right away, and flour that will keep people fed until there is a harvest. We are also asking help to provide goats right now is key as they will provide the urgently needed milk for children who have not had protein for many months.

If you could please share this project on your social media accounts, family and friends, and even hold fundraisers of your own, we would be tremendously grateful. Every penny counts, and every one of you has the power to help children who are suffering right now with so little nourishment.  By throwing a coffee morning, a quiz night, or maybe even a silent disco event, you will help us to literally save lives right now.  And to top it off, you will have a fantastic time with your friends!

Please get in touch at contact@kidsforkids.org.uk if you need any Kids for Kids photographs or materials that would help with your event and getting with the word out about what we are doing. Thank you all!
