You will have seen that the title of this project has changed. The rains have come in Darfur, and food is now growing. With your help we provided emergency aid to over 6,000 families that had been worst-hit by the famine this year - saving the lives of children, adults, and animals alike. But famine does not just stop. Families in both our villages, and those we have not yet adopted in Darfur, will be suffering the repercussions of the trauma they experienced this year. Some will have lost friends and family members, some will have lost their animals. We even received news of goats dying, the hardiest of animals. Many aborted which is nature's way of protecting the mother. It is always the youngest who succumb first and children in all villages were malnourished. With no journalists reporting from Darfur we will never know the extent of the disaster. Now, we must help families rebuild their lives.
With your help, we are hoping to provide our key projects and basic essentials to families in five new villages next year, whilst continuing to support existing Kids for Kids' villages. In order to achieve this, we must start securing funds now, so we know for certain exactly how many villages, and size, we can adopt and provide with our sustainable projects. We will begin the selection process in January, where we look at all the applications from villages asking to be adopted by Kids for Kids. Once our decisions are final, we will begin our inception meetings where the communities will democratically select the first families to benefit from the goat loan and to receive a donkey, blankets, mosquito nets, and other basic essentials. We need to have the funds to provide our sustainable projects for all the new villages - and we need your help.
Our sustainable projects truly transform lives, and continue to do so every day. I wanted to share with you a short story from one of our beneficiaries, Hawa, from Fardal village. Hawa was one of our first Goat Loan beneficiaries in 2017 when Fardal Village became a Kids for Kids village. This year Hawa noticed her neighbour Abdu's children were looking very unwell - especially his youngest who was losing a lot of weight. Her own children's health had improved so much when they started to drink the milk from the Kids for Kids goats she was loaned the year before that she decided to start bringing Abdu milk for his children to drink every day. His children's health has improved significantly over the past few months thanks to Hawa's generosity.
There is a such a sense of community in all our villages in Darfur and we constantly hear stories like this of families helping others, sharing what little they have so everyone can benefit. Hawa and o ther goat loan beneficiaries in Fardal are also now bringing milk to the children and teachers at their local Kids for Kids' Kindergarten. It really is wonderful.
Your donations to this project and your support for Kids for Kids is helping people to help themselves, and their neighbours. By continuing to support our projects you are forever changing the lives of families with no other hope.
