Eight New Villages Need YOU!

By Sage Lancaster | Project Leader

At the beginning of February, we held our annual program meetings with our team from Darfur. It was a very hard week as we had so many applications from villages hoping to be adopted by Kids for Kids this year, a year proving very difficult in Sudan. You may have heard about the current ongoing demonstrations, started because of the massive rise of the price of bread.

We are one of the only organizations still working in Darfur, and despite the challenges, we are adopting eight new villages this year.  We simply have to - people are in such need. But we cannot send away empty handed the leaders of all the villages who were not selected when their need is so great.  All of them reported children dying from malaria last year so we will provide each of them with mosquito nets.   We so wish we could adopt them all.  There are so many families suffering and we must help as many as possible. Eight villages is a stretch for us but we will never adopt a village that we cannot 100% guarantee our support to.  Our sustainable projects are going to enable families in these new villages to stay in their homes, give them a livelihood, and ensure they can afford the current inflation in Sudan.  However, this will mean we will be relying on our reserves, unless you can help us please?

Last year was already a huge challenge because of the failed harvest. We need your help to help families in our existing villages rebuild, as well as those in our new villages. All the documents have been signed and we are all set to begin our inception meetings this month where each community will select the first families, the poorest families, who will benefit from the goat loan and the other basic essentials they have had to survive without for so long.  Our sustainable projects are going to be a fantastic help to countless mothers who cannot feed their children right now.

Any help you can give to bring hope and stability to our suffering families would be greatly appreciated. Even just sharing this project around your social circles will increase awareness about the life-saving work we are continuing to carry out. People need to know they can make a difference to families in Sudan who are currently struggling, especially now.

"My biggest worry is water," says Patricia Parker MBE, Kids for Kids Founder and CEO. "Despite assurances our handpumps would be installed, we are still waiting. People are desperate for water. Can you imagine walking miles for every drop- knowing there is water underground?" A donation of a simple jerrycan will be a great help for those that are still walking miles to get water.

We are so grateful for your ongoing support. Every penny you donate is put to use and every year we publish a complete list of every single project we carried out on the ground in Darfur last year, as well as our plans for this year. Please take a moment to read 2018's list here. You helped us make all this possible and we are so grateful. Let's make 2019 even better!

Can you gift a chicken this Easter?!

Easter is next month, and we are so hoping you might want to donate three hens and a rooster for just $25 (£19) to provide eggs to the frail elderly in our villages! Chickens are much easier to manage than goats, and their eggs provide essential protein.  What would make a better gift than a personalized Certificate in your loved ones Easter baskets?!  Please get in touch with us at contact@kidsforkids.org.uk if you make a donation and would like us to send you a Gift Certificate!
