We continue our work to ensure the quality of education, empower young people to reach their potentials and also integrate personal hygiene awareness for children, Salariin Kampuchea has done its mission through different educational programs, engaged students to access to education, engaged parents and community to value education, and support their child learning. To achieve the mission, we integrate variety activities in our program. Please see what we have done for the last three months.
For the last three months, over 280 students are participating in our programs, they are able to speak foreign languages, English and Chinese for basic communication, to put their fingers on keyboards and type English and Khmer font properly and to realize to clean hands and brush their teeth in daily lives. They are also able to gain reading skills in the library and at home.
Hand washing workshop
In the last three months, our teachers and volunteers arranged, organized and conducted hand washing to over 100 young children at our school. They learn how to wash their hands and when to wash their, before meal, and after leave toilet. They learn washing hands before and after their English lesson. They really enjoy hand washing with their classmates and friends. They realize and understand better about the benefit of hand washing and they are able to apply it at home before meal and after leave toilet.
One student, Kimseng expresses his feeling and opinion about a hand washing. “My name is Kimseng, I am 10 years old. I am student at Salariin Kampuchea, I study English here for more one year. I feel very happy to join a hand washing after my class. I th ink it is good because we have good health, no sick, no virus in our body. It save my parents time, save money, don’t difficulties our parents ourselves. Before I never do it but when I join hand washing lesson, I realize that and I do it hand”.
Tooth brushing workshop
We are very proud to conduct and organize tooth brushing workshop for over 100 young children for the last three months. It is important and useful for them because some of our children never brush their teeth and never care about brushing their teeth. We show them how to brush teeth, when to brush teeth, bad teeth and good teeth in the classrooms. After the lesson, they realize that it is important for them to brush their teeth and they feel scared when they do not brush their teeth. Finally, we bring kids to brushing station to practice brushing teeth. Furthermore, all children who participate in the workshop, they got toothpaste and toothbrushes. They really enjoy brushing their teeth.
One student, Fiona expresses her feeling for tooth brushing workshop “My name is Fiona. I am student at Salariin Kampuchea. I am happy to get toothpaste, toothbrush and join brushing activities with my classmate and friends here. I feel scared when I see teachers show me bad teeth. I don’t want my teeth like that. I will keep teeth good and I brush it”.
In the next three months, we will continue hand washing, conduct Pre-Intermediate certificate test, mid-term test, arrange and organize Khmer New Year Party for students, decorate computer classroom. We conduct a storytelling in the library.
We would like to thank everyone who supported us through GlobalGiving. With your help we hope to continue and build upon the success of our non-formal education program.
We wish you happy New Year, every success, happiness and enjoy it with your family and friends!
Warmest regards,
The Salariin Kampuchea Team
